Knowing reality star Kim Kardashian and rapper Kanye West’s public personas most would be surprised to see how their home looks like inside.
Minimal Monastery
Spending millions on the renovation of their Hidden Hills, California mansion, the couple successfully overhauled their home into what the mother of four calls a ‘minimal monastery’. The renovations were done with the help of architect Claudio Silvestrin and interior designer Axel Vervoordt.
No wonder, the couple has no problem showing off the product of their hard work. Among the lucky people granted access inside the home is writer Zack O’Malley Greenburg from Forbes magazine. During his visit, he got to tour the sparsely furnished abode.
He took a particular interest in the home’s pristine white Belgian plaster floors which match well with its equally white alabaster walls. Apparently, the material is so delicate that it can be easily scuffed. Now, given how rich the couple is that might not be such a big problem, right? Not exactly since having the floors repaired would be a hassle because it can only be fixed up by a crew from Europe.
Thus, it’s not surprising that the couple is quite protective of their floors. Greenburg even revealed that he had to wear some cloth booties over his shoes to avoid scratches on the precious material.
Fascinating Features
But the home’s floors are definitely not the only interesting things about the couple’s ‘monastery’. During Kardashian’s stint on Vogue‘s 73 Questions series, the reality star gave a short tour of the Kardashian-West household. Watching the video, people began obsessing about the rather unusual sink that the star has in her bathroom. It appears that the sinks in her master bathroom didn’t have basins and that the water would have to fall on a flat surface.
Appeasing her curious fans, the 38-year-old posted an Instagram story to explain exactly how they work. Apparently, the sink had a sloped surfaced and a water drain in the middle making it more or less just like any regular bathroom sink. She also explained how turning the faucets on high pressure won’t cause any backsplash keeping their bathroom floors pristine and dry.
The couple purchased the property in 2014 for a reported $20 million. Its value is now pegged at a whopping $60 million.
Safe House
Meanwhile, Vogue writer Jonathan Van Meter also revealed something about the home’s security. According to Van Meter, he had to go through some ‘Pentagon-level security’ before he could access it. He also commented on a security pod that’s apparently staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The couple’s desire for maximum security may stem from the fact that they’re living in the home with four young children. This might have even heightened up with the coming of their fourth child, Psalm West, last May.
