In some ways, celebrities are no different from any other regular person on the street. Like a lot of unlucky people, some of them had difficult childhoods and grew up in unideal homes. One of these celebs is the award-winning rapper and actor Eminem.
Making Peace
After years of estrangement from the ‘King of Hip Hop’, Eminem’s father, Marshall Bruce Mathers, reportedly passed away last June. Unfortunately, he died before having his last wish fulfilled: to reconcile with his son.
According to a report from Radar Online, the 67-year-old patriarch, who spent his final days in a wheelchair, succumbed after a heart attack in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The information came from Pam Innis, who is a longtime family friend. Innis also revealed that it was one of Mathers’ biggest fears to die without having made amends with his son.
While the death may come as a surprise to some, Mathers, who has been living in recluse, has been suffering from health issues for some time prior to his passing. This was further confirmed by his girlfriend, Teresa Harbin, who posted Facebook updates detailing his hospitalizations and ailments. The two have reportedly been together for about 20 years and lived in a worn down house where Mathers spent his last years.
Another family source has also spoken in 2018 about how Mathers days were numbered and that it hurt him to hear the songs where his son ‘blasts’ him.
Strained Relationship
According to Radar Online, Eminem, born Marshall Bruce Mathers III, and his father didn’t stay in touch after Mathers left them when the rapper was just a baby. There are sources though which claim that Eminem used to send his father letters as a teenager. All of which came back to him marked ‘return to sender’.
Likewise, he seems to have never contacted his half-siblings either as they have previously come out to slam the now 46-year-old rapper in several interviews. He has two half-siblings from his father’s side: Michael and Sarah. Meanwhile, he has a half-brother from his mom, Nathan ‘Nate’ Kane Samara.
The rapper has also written songs talking about his father’s abandonment of his family. One of these is the song ‘Rhyme or Reason’ which appeared on his album ‘The Marshall Mathers LP 2‘.
Own Family
Given his not-so-ideal childhood and family life, Eminem seems to be determined to be a good parent to his three daughters. According to reports, Hailie Jade is his only biological child. She was born to the rapper and his ex-wife Kimberly Anne ‘Kim’ Scott. However, he also has custody of Scott’s sister’s daughter Alaina as well as his ex-wife’s daughter from a previous relationship, Whitney. The ex-couple allegedly remain on friendly terms with each other.
