Not many people are given the chance to work in such close proximity to royalty. Thus, many consider it a great opportunity to be employed under the crown and serve the kingdom’s future king.
Recently, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and Kate Middleton posted a job vacancy for a highly-organized individual who is also adept at keeping secrets.
Diary Coordinator
According to a posting on the royal employment website, the couple is in need of a diary coordinator to join their current team of staff at Kensington Palace.
So, what does the job entail? For starters, the lucky candidate would be primarily responsible for managing the complex event diary that Prince William and Middleton have. Simply speaking, the diary coordinator should make sure that the couple never overbooks themselves when it comes to events.
What more, the person hired will also be responsible for coordinating and managing event updates, communicating changes and even providing regular briefings.
The job is definitely an important position considering just how busy a working member of the royal family can be. Especially, Prince William who is among the most hardworking royals according to tallies of official events and engagements he attended last year.
According to Tim O’Donovan, a British insurance broker and royal observer, the prince had 150 engagements within the United Kingdom and another 70 during official overseas visits. Meanwhile, his wife attended 64 engagements in the U.K. and 23 foreign ones.
Job Qualifications
Given such an important position, the royals are looking for the best candidate for the job. On top of the list of the desired skills are excellent communication skills as well as proven ability to manage complicated diaries. Of course, someone who can be a team player is also preferred as the person ultimately hired would have to develop working relationships with various stakeholders.
Another desired quality is the ability to perform well under pressure while juggling the amount of workload at hand. Going further, the job posting says that someone with advanced IT skills is also required. Most importantly though, the right candidate should be able to maintain discretion and confidentiality at all times.
The job post didn’t really specify details about how much the position will pay. However, the royal family is known for paying its employees well while also offering them benefit packages and time offs.
Working for the Queen
Meanwhile, Queen Elizabeth II is reportedly looking for a new member to join her staff as a digital communications officer. According to the job posting, the officer would be responsible for overseeing the daily news flow on both social networking and digital platforms. The chosen candidate would also be part of some digital projects.
Working with a small team of ‘digital media specialists’, the officer is expected to create and write content for the royal household’s website and other digital platforms.
