According to a report by Business Insider, it is expected that McDonald’s may launch a donut sticks product during breakfast hours for a limited time period.
These donut sticks are said to resemble Dunkin Donuts’ deep-fried Donut Fries which were launched back in July and became the most wanted and popular limited-time item at DD in no time.
The Debut Is Expected Soon
The debut of the McDonald’s donut sticks is expected next month. However, these donut sticks will be added to the limited time offer menu which will only be accessible during the breakfast hours.
The interpretation of donut sticks by McDonald’s seems to be quite similar to Dunkin Donut’s donut fries.
McDonald’s churro-like snack will be made from deep-fried sweetened dough which will be dipped in cinnamon sugar.
This Limited Time Offer May Boost Their Otherwise Decreasing Sales
Due to the increasing competition in the fast food industry, McDonald’s has been facing some serious set backs. There was a time when McDonald’s was the only fast food chain that provided quality fast food at competitive prices.
However, many would now proclaim that there are multiple other fast food options which are providing better food than McDonalds and at cheaper prices.
The competition increased when McDonald’s extended their breakfast menu and made it available to customers throughout the day. The only way McDonald’s is still thriving is due to its rather popular limited time offer menu.
They have constantly been releasing some limited time offer hits, for instance the Triple Breakfast Stack launched last year in October was a big hit and helped in boosting their decreasing sales in the United States of America.
Risk Is Involved But There Is Hope For McDonald’s
This new product will only be able to boost their otherwise declining sales only if McDonald’s is able to produce similar, if not better, donut sticks as compared to Dunkin Donuts. It is quite risky as deep fried sweet dough with a sprinkle of cinnamon has not been McDonald’s forte. The fast food chain has always been known for its specialization in its meat game.
It would be great for McDonald’s if it is able to produce a similar or better donut stick product than Dunkin Donuts because the Dunkin Donuts Fries were a big hit. According to David Hoffman, CEO of Dunkin Donuts, the donut fries were the best performing limited time offer that the brand has ever launched.
The recipe of both the the fast food chains for this particular product seems to be similar and both products fall into the category of a limited time offer. However, the main difference between McDonald’s donut sticks and Dunkin’s donut fries seems to be their marketing.
Dunkin Donuts marketed their limited time offer product as an evening snack but McDonald’s will be launching their limited time offer as a side item to their regular breakfast menu.
Also Expect Fun New Deals By McDonald’s
According to the same report by Business Insider, McDonald’s is also planning to offer a deal in which six of these donut sticks and a small cup of coffee will be accessible for only $1.99. However, if someone is not a fan of coffee and wants to skip it then they can get just six donut sticks for as low as $1.29.
The customers can also get a dozen of these donut sticks for a price of $2.39 only. These deals seem to save you a lot of money but since the size of these donut sticks is still unknown, we cannot affirm if its a profitable deal or not.
Dunkin Donuts Does Not Seem Too Happy
Michelle King, a spokesperson from Dunkin Donuts, gave a statement to CNBC stating that the company is not surprised that McDonald’s is mimicking their successful Donut Fries.
Donut Fries were a success indeed and McDonald’s has the chance of earning some serious profits from their interpretation of Donut Fries provided that they deliver the same or better quality.
However, according to King, Dunkin Donuts is planning to release Dunkin Fries back into the market very soon as well, which would then compete with the offering by McDonald’s.
