Short women have the advantage of making up for their height by wearing heels. Unfortunately, men don’t have the same option. This doesn’t mean that they can’t make changes to make them appear just a little bit taller though.
A great example of a vertically-challenged celebrity short men can look to for style advice is comedian Kevin Hart. Just recently, the 5’4″ A-lister set an example when he found the perfect watch that complements his height.
The Perfect Size
The 39-year-old celebrity sported a $60,000 Audemars Piguet watch called the Royal Oak Selfwinding Openworked. Originally released by the brand in 2014, the timepiece is notable for its 39mm case which is perfect since it isn’t too big or too small. According to style experts, wearing large watches would only cause unnecessary bulk on short men and create an imbalance in their overall outfit.
Another thing that makes the Swiss-made watch special is that it’s no longer in production. First sold for $60,000 to $70,000, a Royal Oak Selfwinding Openworked can fetch up to $94,000 today. Not everyone has the dough to drop an entire year’s worth of salary on a watch but Hart surely has no trouble doing so with his reported $150 million net worth.
Fashion Tips For Short Men
This isn’t the only time Hart impressed people with his fashion sense though. He’s often proved how good styling can make the shortest of men appear a couple of inches taller with his OOTDs.
Alan Au, vice president of the clothing brand Jimmy Au’s For Men 5’8″ and Under, has a couple more fashion tips for short men. According to Au, men should avoid wearing clothes that are too big or long for their frame.
Getting clothes tailored and altered to fit better is a great way to avoid looking too stumpy. A simple look at small male celebrities like Aziz Ansari, who’s only 5’6″, and Hart will prove how well-fitted jackets and pants can make a huge difference in giving one’s body the illusion of length.
Aside from this, Au also says that opting for clothes with subtler patterns can make people appear taller. Large and loud patterns tend to swallow up shorter guys. Going for patterns like thin stripes is more ideal. Clothes with a dotted print will also do the trick. What more, the print adds an interesting aspect to clothes but not to the point of distraction.
Another great tip for short men is to wear rounded-toe shoes and avoid square-toe ones. Some classic Chelsea boots are a fantastic staple piece that’ll work with many outfits and add extra height because of its slight heels.
Lastly, Au suggests men go for monochromatic looks picking one color or shades of one color and wearing it head to toe. This will create an elongated silhouette and make the wearer look leaner and taller.
