It’s no secret that Hollywood doesn’t take kindly to aging. With all the fad to stay young, actresses often feel the pressure of delaying the signs of aging through various invasive and non-invasive procedures. But, 46-year-old actress Gwyneth Paltrow’s response to her changing appearance is quite different from the norm.
Embracing Her Age
During an episode of a Goop podcast, the actress admitted that she wasn’t always that confident about her looks throughout the years.
She even said that she felt ‘funny’ about the way she looked and that she thinks it’s rare for a person to actually think that they’re beautiful. And like other regular women, Paltrow said that she didn’t see her beauty when she looked in the mirror.
Another thing she noticed about aging is the inner struggle of a woman who may no longer be considered attractive. She then mused about what happens to a woman’s identity when she reaches that point in her life.
Fortunately, the ‘Shakespeare in Love’ star eventually learned how to adapt to the changes her looks underwent in the past years and was finally able to ’embrace’ herself more as the years went by.
A Beautiful Thing
While not all of the changes that aging brings can be positive, Paltrow said she still believes that the process is primarily a ‘beautiful thing’ because it allows a person’s inner beauty to shine through as time goes on.
Speaking in the same podcast, she said that these outer and inner changes happen parallel to each other. She describes the experience as finally knowing oneself as well as valuing one’s personal relationships and even one’s contributions to the world.
Still, she joked about the surprising realization of having crow’s feet, which are the branching wrinkles that form on the outer part of the eyes.
This isn’t the first time that Paltrow has opened up about her own experiences and insights on aging while also being in the pubic spotlight though.
‘Grown Woman’
Speaking with People magazine back in 2016, the mother of two said that she feels blessed to have wrinkles as they are signs of the incredible ups and downs that she’s been through in her life. She also talked about finally feeling confident about being a ‘grown woman’ partly just through accepting where she is in time.
She even went as far as saying that women get a ‘software upgrade’ when they turn 40 and adding that she’s never been happier. Further proof of this is the fact that Paltrow said she won’t want to travel back in time or ‘erase’ years off her face for anything.
The actress is currently married to ‘Glee’ co-creator Brad Falchuk. She has two children with former husband and Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, a 15-year-old daughter Apple and a 13-year-old son Moses.
