Years after playing mother of two Gabrielle Solis on the hit ABC series ‘Desperate Housewives‘, Eva Longoria is now finally a mother herself. The now 44-year-old actress gave birth to her first child, Santiago Enrique Bastón, June of last year.
Being a new mom as well as a busy actress, Longoria soon realized the struggles of being a working mother in an interview for a cover story on Parents magazine. This is what she has to say…
Real Mom Struggles
According to Longoria, she returned to work just weeks after giving birth to her now one-year-old son and found the setup quite difficult.
She particularly found the task of breastfeeding while working rather hard as the timing of it was not so easy to figure out. In the end, though, the new mother says that ‘you just do it and get it done’.
Arguably, Longoria does have some experience with children as her husband, José Bastón, already has three of his own from a previous marriage. The actress gained three stepchildren, then aged 20, 12, and 12, after marrying Bastón a couple of years ago. However, it’s worth noting that caring for a newborn baby is a whole lot different than looking after grown kids.
Still, it looks like the family is adjusting quite well. Bastón’s three children even reportedly helped in picking out the name of their new baby brother.
Sunny Disposition
Juggling motherhood and work may be hard but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t perks.
According to Longoria, her son, Santi, makes the task of parenting ‘easy’ for both her and her husband.
This is all primarily thanks to the baby’s easy-going nature and sunny disposition. Santi’s positive and happy personality surely shines through all the pictures and moments that Longoria shares on her social media accounts.
This is certainly a blessing considering all the projects that she is currently juggling. Fans of the children’s show ‘Dora the Explorer’ will soon see the Mexican American actress co-star in the live-action adaptation film ‘Dora and the Lost City of Gold’ set to hit theaters this coming August.
She’s also currently guest starring in the new ABC series ‘Grand Hotel’ which is based on the Spanish show ‘Gran Hotel.
Leading by Example
The actress also talked about the importance of leading by example as she raises her son and continues her work in the Time’s Up movement. According to Longoria, she feels that there’s more pressure to raise boys into good men today.
In the end, though, she believes that teaching her son about concepts like feminism and equality should happen by showing him how these work in his everyday life. She also says that she feels more inclined to do her part in leaving a better world for her son as well as other children in the future.
