When Lady Gaga first broke out into the music scene in the late 2000s, she was all about the outrageous and shock factor. Known for her over-the-top ensembles, the singer managed to attract a legion of loyal fans dubbed as the ‘Little Monsters’.
The Grammy Award-winning performer may have toned down her style now, but memories of her camp past still resurface now and then. A few years ago, one of her fake fingernails resurfaced in an auction selling for thousands of dollars.
Obsessed with Gaga
The nail in question is a black and gold piece which the singer wore as part of a set during a launch event. Designed by nail artist Aya Fukuda, the nail set’s look was inspired by the perfume bottle of the singer’s Fame perfume.
She wore it with an alien-like black jumpsuit at the launch and then re-wore them again for a concert she performed in Ireland the very next day.
This is where things get interesting; wanting to give her audience a great show, the performer might have lost one of her custom-made nails on the stage without her noticing. Some photos from the event even picture her with a missing nail.
When the concert wrapped up, one of the tour members reportedly found the black and gold nail on the floor and picked it up. It was then sold off for $13,000.
Auction Fail
Paying $13,000 for a piece of fake fingernail may seem excessive but you’d be surprised to know that the singer’s fans still discern where they throw their money on. Case in point is the lack of interest in Lady Gaga’s childhood piano when it was auctioned off in New York.
Part of Julien’s Auctions’ Music Icons memorabilia sale, the piano was estimated to fetch around $100,000 to $200,000. Too bad since it’s believed that this is the same piano that the musician wrote her first song on at the young age of five years old.
It’s still unclear whether the piano will ever go up for sale again. But you never know, a few more hits and maybe it will resurface once again in a couple of years to find a new owner who loves Gaga and her music.
Other Gaga Memorabilia
While that one Lady Gaga memorabilia didn’t drum up enough interest, the rest of her possessions actually sell like hotcakes in other auctions. Perhaps her fans are more interested in owning a piece of the artist’s closet?
Plenty of the musician’s former performance costumes have been sold for thousands of dollars before. One of the most notable ones is a black Giorgio Armani studded jumpsuit which the star wore during her ‘Born This Way’ tour. Originally valued at $10,000, the outfit sold for over $19,000.
Even her more ‘casual’ clothes seem to be coveted by fans. For example, a kimono dress she wore while walking her dogs managed to snag $15,000 at an auction.
