Due to its location right at in London’s outskirts and its royal connections, the prestigious Wimbledon tennis tournament has consistently drawn the attention of celebrities and other famous personalities.
Every year, various members of the rich and famous have been spotted on the sidelines cheering on their bets during matches.
And this year is definitely no exception.
The Middletons
Among the many recognizable faces that graced the event are the members of the Middleton family, from which current Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton hails from.
It’s also worth noting that the Duchess is a patron of the tournament and has even brought her then-new sister-in-law Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, to the event the previous year.
Markle, even though she’s technically on maternity leave, made a surprise appearance at this year’s Wimbledon to cheer on her friend, tennis star Serena Williams.
Meanwhile, Kate’s parents, Michael and Carole Middleton went to the tennis match on July 3, a few days after the official start of Wimbledon. Kate’s two younger siblings, Pippa and James Middleton, were also in attendance, though the three didn’t come together as a group.
It can be remembered that Pippa gained worldwide fame when she took on the role of maid of honor at Kate and Prince William’s 2010 royal nuptials.
British Stars
Being a British affair, it’s no surprise that a ton of British celebrities was spotted at Wimbledon. One of the most notable ones is young actress, Maisie Williams, best known for her role as Arya Stark on the HBO show ‘Game of Thrones’. The 22-year-old came to the event in an all-pink ensemble to match her pink hair.
Another famous young person at the stands is Victoria and David Beckham’s 16-year-old son Romeo, who was spotted wearing tennis gear at the event. Sources say that he’s to follow his dad’s footsteps into professional sports as he plans on being a pro tennis player.
One of the first British celebs to make an appearance at the event is ‘Mary Poppins Returns’ actress Emily Mortimer, who came with her spouse Alessandro Nivola. Also on the sidelines is former Spice Girls member Geri Horner, who was photographed enthusiastically cheering during a match last July 5.
Hollywood Visitors
Due to its popularity worldwide, the event has also attracted Hollywood A-listers to come to London to watch the tournament.
One of the first ones there is Australian actress Rebel Wilson best known for her roles in the Pitch Perfect movies.
Also in attendance is British-American actress Sienna Miller, who was spotted eating strawberries and cream, a snack traditionally eaten during the games. Following suit is former pro baseball player and Jennifer Lopez’s fiance Alex Rodriguez.
Socialite and former reality star Nicole Richie also flew in to London for Wimbledon with her husband, Joel Madden.
