The Jonas Brothers were all the rage at the height of their music career in the late 2000s. However, the three-piece band soon broke the hearts of their teenage fans when they announced that they were disbanding in 2013.
After years of pursuing solo careers, the musician brothers recently just made a comeback as a band much to the delight of their now adult fans. With their return, the members of the band also revealed new details about their initial breakup.
Strained Relationship
During an interview on CBS’ This Morning, the recently-reunited band members shared how their split affected their relationship as family members.
According to the youngest of the three, Nick Jonas, he was initially afraid that his older siblings, Kevin and Joe, would never speak to him again when the band parted ways. The 26-year-old musician was actually the one who initiated the breakup in 2013.
Meanwhile, Joe, who unofficially served as the band’s frontman, echoed similar sentiments and thought that the brothers were going to be ‘no more’ at the time. He has also previously admitted to not being on speaking terms with Kevin and Nick following the decision six years ago.
The Jonas Brothers first became popular among Disney Channel audiences. Their fame was further cemented when they starred in two Disney original movies, Camp Rock and also its sequel, Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam.
Why They Split
In the interview, the trio also came clean about the real reasons the band broke up. According to Nick, there really isn’t a simple explanation but admitted that he felt that the world no longer had the ‘appetite’ for the kind of music that they were releasing at the time.
While they were popular in the beginning, their show’s sales started declining and they were being forced to make music that they didn’t really take pride in. To address his conflicted feelings, Nick decided to talk about the issues with his brothers and suggested that they go on their music careers separately.
The suggestion wasn’t taken lightly by Kevin and Joe leading to the temporary fallout among the siblings. In the end, though, Joe says he feels all those challenges have been worth it as they led them to where they are today.
‘Chasing Happiness’
In time for their comeback, the band also released a documentary, ‘Chasing Happiness’, which shows fans a behind-the-scenes look at the band’s experience working on their latest album, ‘Happiness Begins’.
The album is set to drop by June 7 and will feature a ‘new and improved’ sound with 14 new song releases. ‘Happiness Begins’ is the first album that the band recorded since the release of their 2013 record ‘Live‘. What more, the band has also announced that they are going on a North American tour to promote the album beginning in August of this year.
