Former Disney star Demi Lovato has gone through a lot of struggles in life despite being just 26 years old. During her time in the spotlight, she’s both managed to become the poster child for the stereotype of the ‘gone wild’ teen and the reformed young star.
This is thanks to her long-time battle with a slew of personal issues from substance abuse to eating disorders to having a bipolar personality disorder. While she’s fallen from grace many times before, what makes her story interesting is how many times she’s fought against her demons and succeeded.
Trips to the Rehab
The vocalist has been open about her struggles with eating disorders, mental illnesses, and addiction for a long time now. She even released a documentary about her experiences called Demi Lovato: Simply Complicated in 2017 to show her commitment to her recovery journey.
Her battle with substance abuse began at the young age of 17 while she was at the height of her singing and acting career at Disney. She would have a full-blown addiction within a year leading to her first trip to the rehab at only 18. Lovato’s decision came after she attacked one of her Camp Rock 2 back-up dancers.
However, her deep-rooted issues weren’t so easily solved. She admitted that she continued to use hard substances and pills while living in a sober facility. Lovato even admitted that she didn’t think she’d make it to the age of 21 consdiering the life she was living.
But she did. Overcoming her troubles, she successfully managed to live a clean life for six years and get her music career back on track.
Coming Clean
Unfortunately, she fell off the wagon once again just a few months after celebrating her sixth sober-versary in mid-2018. The singer came clean about her relapse in her song ‘Sober’. In the song’s lyrics, she apologized to her fans saying quite directly that she’s not sober anymore.
It was her fans who initially suspected that their idol went back into her old ways again at first. Their suspicions were, later on, proven when news about Lovato being rushed to the hospital because of a possible overdose, broke out.
For the second time, Lovato hit rock bottom.
Trying Again
Proving her strength, the 26-year-old talent didn’t let the hiccup undo the hard work she’s done years prior. After recovering from the overdose, Lovato went into high-gear once again to get her life in order.
Fortunately, her fans and fellow celebrities were there to support her still. Celebs like Riverdale’s Lili Reinhart, Ariana Grande, and long-time friend Ellen DeGeneres all sent her encouraging words.
And it looks like she’s doing well again. She recently celebrated getting her six months chip and shared the news with her 72 million Instagram followers.
