Ever wondered what it would be like to live on a television sitcom’s set? Well, the Swedish company IKEA intends to make that dream a reality.
Known for its ready-to-assemble Scandinavian-style furniture, the company has recently set out to further prove their products’ versatility with the launch of a new ad campaign.
‘Real Life Series’
For its newest campaign called the Real Life Series, IKEA recreated living room sets from popular shows like ‘Friends’, ‘The Simpsons’ and ‘Stranger Things‘ using furniture from their massive existing catalog.
The campaign is based in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) but will also be displayed in IKEA stores within the Middle Eastern region. According to the company’s official website, they currently have 313 stores spread around in 38 countries and territories. The UAE has two locations while another three are found in Saudi Arabia.
The Results
Although the recreations aren’t 100% identical to the shows’ living room sets, the differences appear to be minimal. Photos of the final results are posted on the IKEA’s official website where all the furniture and decorations that are featured in each of the living rooms, are listed.
For example, IKEA’s designers used a vintage car poster in place of the original French Jouets print out that was found on the set of the hit 90s show ‘Friends’.
Looking closer at the recreated version, one can also notice some slight design differences when it comes to the pillows, plants and some lamps. In the end, the recreation still captured the living room’s color scheme and overall look.
For their ‘The Simpsons’ recreation, IKEA impressively copied even the small details of the set.
From the wall decorations to the color scheme, the two versions are almost identical. They even got the slanted framed boat picture correct.
The Swedish company’s reimagining of the 80s-set Netflix show ‘Stranger Things’ really got the wall alphabet with the Christmas lights right.
They also suggested painting products that consumers can use to make their own version of the now-famous wall.
How They Did It
A lot of people were impressed by IKEA’s creative efforts as can be seen in netizens’ reactions on social media. And it’s all thanks to many hours of hard work the campaign team put on to make the ad series happen. The team includes staff from the advertising company Publicis, who helped IKEA with the campaign.
According to IKEA managing director Vinod Jayan, the team spent months sifting through the company’s products trying to find the pieces that were eventually used for the rooms. They also used some 3-D software for the designs they came up with. In the end, the team was able to create stunning versions of the original sets, Jayan said.
