Wendy Williams, the woman behind the popular ‘The Wendy Williams Show’ has been known for her sometimes no holds barred takes on celebrities. And now, she’s turned her attention to the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle.
Knowing that Markle used to be in the entertainment business herself, it might not be surprising to hear that the two personalities bumped into each other at some point. But what’s really unexpected is the way Williams first knew about the then-actress.
TV Show Model
According to the 54-year-old host, the Duchess once applied for a job at ‘The Wendy Williams Show’. In a recent episode of her daytime talk show, Williams said that Markle tried to become a model on the show. This was all before the then-actress met her royal husband Prince Harry and was catapulted to international fame.
It’s also worth noting that Markle has held a similar ‘television modeling’ job before with her stint as a briefcase girl on the game show ‘Deal or No Deal’. As a briefcase girl, Markle, together with 25 other girls, had to carry and showcase a numbered briefcase which contains an amount varying from a penny to the jackpot prize.
According to the Huffington Post, the Duchess’ time on the show was around 2006 to 2007. Howie Mandel, the game show’s host, has previously said that he didn’t remember Markle on the show but has since commented on it.
Wendy on Meghan
The show has been on for more than a decade now and it is speculated that Markle applied to be on it before getting cast on ‘Suits’.
This isn’t the first time that Williams has discussed the Duchess on her show though. In fact, she’s talked about Markle’s royal wedding and family multiple times. While she described Markle as a ‘bit of a wild card’, the host has also said that she respects the former actress’ ‘game’. In the end though, she joked about how Markle has been to the show’s building and that they have her DNA.
Aside from the Duchess’ former modeling aspirations, Williams also touched on Markle’s alleged photo ban at Wimbledon. During a recent appearance at the tennis tournament, the Duchess reportedly asked not to be photographed despite being at a televised event.
Before Royalty
After gaining popularity for marrying into the British royal family, Markle’s past has been the subject of various news stories in the press.
Her most notable work as an actress is her role as the paralegal turned lawyer, Rachel Zane, in the show ‘Suits’. She was cast in the role in 2011 and played it until 2017 when she left acting. The Duchess also reportedly worked as a freelance calligrapher and also ran a blog called ‘The Tig’.
