The late Princess Diana passed away in 1997 but her memory is still fondly remembered by people from all over the world until today. Of course, this includes members of her own family, most particularly her two sons, Prince Harry and Prince William.
Recently, her youngest and his wife Meghan Markle paid tribute to her memory for the first time on their official Instagram account.
Inspiring Quote
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s official Instagram account shared an inspiring quote from the Prince’s late mother who was known for her extensive humanitarian efforts when she was still alive. The quote (pictured above) was directed to young leaders, students, teachers and public figures.
This marks the first time that the Sussex couple mentioned Princess Diana on their Instagram account where they have 9.3 million followers. However, it’s worth noting that Prince Harry and Markle first gave the late royal’s memory a nod when they posted a photo of their son Archie Harrison Mountbatten Windsor on Mother’s Day with forget-me-not flowers, which were the Princess’ favorite.
Close Bond
These thoughtful gestures stem from Prince Harry’s close relationship with his late mother. And this closeness also manifests in the 34-year-old Prince’s current bond with Princess Diana’s side of the family.
Recently, Lady Di’s sisters, Lady Jane Fellowes and Lady Sarah McCorquodale, were seen in the official royal family portraits of Archie’s christening at Windsor Castle last month. According to People magazine, Prince Harry felt it was important to share images of his ‘full family’ and that he is close with the Spencers. However, his mother’s brother, Charles Spencer, 9th Earl Spencer, was notably absent for the occasion.
Meanwhile, a family friend of the royals’ said that this gesture is a gentle way of reminding the public that the brothers still have their mother in their hearts and minds. Another great example of this in action is Prince William’s symbolic naming of his daughter, whose full name is Charlotte Elizabeth Diana.
Keeping Diana’s Memory Alive
Aside from keeping in touch with his mother’s family, Prince Harry also honored Princess Diana’s memory when he proposed to his now-wife with a ring that featured two diamonds which belonged to Lady Di’s personal collection.
Likewise, his older brother used their mother’s famous blue sapphire engagement ring when he asked the now-Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton to marry him back in 2010.
In an interview following his 2017 engagement, Prince Harry actually even said that he thought his mother and Markle would’ve been best friends and ‘thick as thieves’ had they had the chance to meet. In connection with this, Markle also expressed how important it was to her that they keep Princess Diana’s memory alive.
