Giving birth and taking care of a newborn baby is stressful. New mothers typically don’t get enough sleep and rest caring for their little ones during the first few months.
But being a good friend, Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle, who just gave birth to baby Archie two months ago, went out of her way to show support for her friend, tennis star, Serena Williams.
Supporting A Friend
Following the christening of her son over the weekend, the 37-year-old Markle made a surprise appearance at the Wimbledon tennis games.
Tagging along with her are Genevieve Hillis and Lindsay Roth, who are said to be two of the former actress’ closest and oldest friends. Given the timing of their visit, it is speculated that Hillis and Roth may have been among baby Archie’s godparents.
For the outing, the Duchess wore a casual ensemble of a white striped jacket from L’Agence, a pair of her favorite jeans from Outland Denim, a simple black top and some Finlay & Co. sunglasses.
This isn’t Markle’s first time at the event though. She’s been spotted there for consecutive years prior. She actually made an appearance there with sister-in-law Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, last year which marked their first joint event together.
How They Met
The two friends first met back in 2010 at that year’s Super Bowl held in Miami, Florida. Markle and the 37-year-old athlete supposedly hit it off immediately. Williams and her husband, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian were even invited by the Duchess to her royal wedding to Prince Harry in May of 2018. What more, the tennis star also reportedly helped in arranging a baby shower for Markle which was held in New York City earlier this year.
The same baby shower, which allegedly cost a whopping $200,000, then became the subject of criticism afterward. It’s also worth noting that neither Markle nor her husband attended Williams’ 2017 wedding. The then ‘Suits’ actress was reportedly busy shooting for the show’s seventh season in Canada while Prince Harry was attending a gala dinner in London.
But the two may have something more to bond over now that both of them are mothers. Williams has a daughter, Alexis Olympia, who was born in 2017. And it looks like they’re doing just that as the tennis pro said that she’s sent the Duchess a shipping of Pampers diapers in April.
Maternity Leave
The first time mother is said to be on maternity leave for three to five months with some sources saying it might extend up to a year.
However, she’s made surprise some surprise public appearances. Aside from cheering her friend at Wimbledon, Markle joined other members of the royal family as they celebrated Queen Elizabeth II’s annual birthday parade in early June. The ruling monarch turned 93 years old this year.
