They say that a dog is man’s best friend, which is definitely true since almost every household all over the world have at least one dog. Most of the time they are actually treated as if they are humans, some can’t even leave them at home that even if they need to fly they would actually take their dogs with them.
One thing most people forget is that dogs are actually animals so they are not accustomed to literally everything that humans do especially if they don’t do it often, and one great example for that is flying on a plane. This is one of the main reasons why a French bulldog named Darcy almost died on a plane.
Darcy the French Bulldog got stressed during a flight
Hypoxia On Dog While Flying
It’s usually adorable when you see a dog on a plane, but when you see that it seemed like it doesn’t look well, what would you do? People who fly for the very first time tend to have different experiences and some even get scared that they have felt anxious, what more a dog who has no idea what is going on?
Michele Burt brought her pet dog Darcy on a flight from Florida to Massachusetts via JetBlue airlines, and it turns out that her dog wasn’t exactly feeling well that she noticed her 3-year-old bulldog was having a hard time breather that its tongue was getting dark and turning blue.
This was obviously a sign that the dog was getting distressed. The owner admitted that she was truly grateful for how the flight attendants took care of the situation, despite the fact that Darcy was a different species.
Some people tend to care less towards animals since they are not humans, but then what they don’t realize is that they are in this world just like us and they have equal rights to live and therefore be saved.
Anyone can literally feel a cabin pressure as well as oxygen fluctuations regardless of what you are, so Burt explained on her Facebook page how the flight attendants actually manage to save her dog. Photos of Darcy wearing an oxygen mask definitely broke the internet as it went up on the trending list last weekend.
Turns out that the distressed dog was given an oxygen mask by the flight attendants as a treatment for hypoxia, which is when the body starts to lack of oxygen.
Flight Attendants Saved Darcy
Burt said that after just a few minutes of having a mask on Darcy’s face, she immediately became alert like a normal dog should be and just a couple more minutes, she didn’t need them anymore.
Because of what happened, Burt said that she was truly grateful for Renaud and Diane, who were the ones who suggested to have Darcy on a mask to help her have oxygen. This then led to Renaud Fenster on being invited on “Good Morning America” just a few days after it happened, and he admitted that he has been working in the industry for more than 15 years, but he has never seen anything like it.
Fenster explained on GMA how he was literally just passing through some cabins so he could check up on the passengers, which is usually what he does. Then again, he noticed something that doesn’t seem usual at all, and that is a lady who has her dog out of her crate since it wasn’t feeling well.
Fenster described Darcy as a dog who seemed like it was going to pass out since it was panting so hard and so quick. His very first instinct was that the dog needs some ice but unfortunately, the ice didn’t do anything. So he looked for help and asked the captain about using the oxygen and so they did. Feasted owns a French bulldog himself and so he definitely relieved that they could help save Darcy’s life.
One of the flight attendants who helped Darcy
Darcy’s owner Michele thanked the airlines especially their flight attendants for being so attentive during times like this. She even said that she would like to remind everyone that there are actually good people the world who does good things, no matter how big or small they may be.
JetBlue airlines even released a statement regarding what happened, and they said that they are just ensuring everyone’s safety while flying, including the ones who have four legs.
