Apple is known for finding and developing the most innovative ways to create or enhance new features. This doesn’t just come in whenever they would release an all-new product, it also happens when an update would be released.
Last year, they have released the most advanced smartphone yet, and that is the iPhone X, along with another flagship the continuation of the iPhone series which is the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus. This year, they will be releasing an updated iOS for every Apple devices, and that is the iOS 12.
According to some tech sources, Apple has decided to change and upgrade a couple of things that can all be found on the beta that they just released. Some of the major upgrades they did is to fix a glitch on the messaging app, they also added some new sticker options on Activities.
What is so great about it is that it could be used by literally everyone and you don’t have to earn or unlock it. It is also rumored that Apple made it possible for FaceTime to serve as a video calling app wherein you can now add two or more people.
It isn’t exactly certain as to how much people you could add, but it could be similar to Google Hangouts. However, one of the biggest upgrade they are proudly introducing is the all-new Apple Maps.
Apple will be releasing the all new Maps when iOS 12 comes out
Apple Maps On IOS 12
It was in 2012 when Apple first introduced their very own Maps, which is a built-in application on their smartphones. During at that time, they have unfortunately faced criticisms because their very own version of Maps aren’t exactly very helpful since they’re not as accurate as they should be.
Tech experts said that Apple released it even before they were ready. Then again, it doesn’t even matter anymore because the new iOS 12 promise to bring the all-new Apple Maps. According to an interview with Apple’s senior vice president Eddie Cue, the company has actually spent so much to turn this thing into a huge investment.
They have added millions of locations and travelled everywhere in order to make this newly upgraded map bigger and way better than before. Cue also mentioned that they will be constantly changing the map so it will stay updated. Back in 2012, Tim Cook himself actually apologized because of Map’s extremely inaccurate and poor performance, especially against Google, who had done a really great job that everyone is now relying on it.
Sources said that Apple actually outfitted a couple of vans that have sensors on them. These are to collect the mapping data that they need in a couple of cities. It is not indicated as to they have managed to do everything for a worldwide service but they are assuring that a better experience will be achieved slowly but surely. The company also said that they will also be relying on their users to provide them with some anonymized location when they are using the app itself.
Their privacy and location information would of course still be protected, but then they could still choose not to. Cue also mentioned that with enough data, they will be able to give more accurate direction to their users. This is exactly what they have done in the San Francisco Bay Area, that location will have the very first detailed map for this newly upgraded app.
Apple didn’t exactly indicate as to when they will decide to roll out every location in the country or the world since they are most likely trying to see how this one will go first.
Will It Be Better Than Google Maps?
Google has indeed done a really great job when it comes to working on their official map. They have gone through all over the cities of the world to be able to deliver an accurate map for everyone. Their street view is what makes them incredibly popular since it’s like the people could actually feel as they are really there.
They have gotten better over the years, but it is about to be tested now that Apple is reintroducing their all-new Maps app that is said to be way better than before. Even if it hasn’t been released yet, tech experts can’t help but compare them already.
Most of them pointed out a very important thing, and that is privacy. It turns out that Apple actually gives their users more control on what they would like to share or not, especially their location, whereas Google, on the other hand, can actually track and record where you are, and even where you have been in the past since they save it.
