The coronavirus pandemic has ensured that you may not get to travel and meet your family and friends during this Christmas. Or you just don’t have anywhere to go, and till now have been bombarded with images from all quarters of a laden table with food and family members in their festival spirits laughing and having the time of their lives. While you are alone at Christmas! Well, if you are dreading that, don’t worry! It does not have to be a very negative experience if you are proactive about it. Loneliness may not be the thing you want, but it can certainly be something you can grin and bear, okay really grin, laugh, and enjoy not just endure! Here are some ways to join the jamboree and not just mope and refuse to get out of bed on a bright and cold Christmas day.
Read up something you always wanted to
If you are a bookworm and really wanted to read something yet delaying it for the longest time. Now is the time! A book can be your best buddy in more ways than one. Unlike gadgets which end up making you more keyed up than ever and hardly allows you to relax. A book can offer you that solace. You, your book, and a nice cup of coffee or hot chocolate, pick your poison and well-read away! If you are a romance fan, this is the time to pick up that romantic book or maybe a fast-paced thriller. Anything that keeps your mind off the things that make you feel sad and alone!
Be the perfect philanthropic
Nothing gives a person more happiness than being a good samaritan for someone. We think sometimes it gives you more happiness than doing something for yourself. Look around you, find any places where you can offer your services, such as an orphanage or a dog shelter. If you have things to give away our money to spare, ensure you do just that and see how it warms the cockles of your heart on a cold cold night! Remember even if we feel bad about being alone, there are others who are not as privileged as you and may not even have a warm meal to tuck into or a warm bed to retire in. Help them, now is the time, trust us you won’t feel alone or weepy any more.
Self-care time
You never have time for yourself! We know, time to do just that when the holidays have come in and you can finally take a closer look at your skin and hair, nails the like, and indulge in some serious self-care. Think of it as this way you can come back to your office after your holidays looking like a million bucks. Also, you can always start your day with some dancing or workout. Nothing sets your ball rolling than a solid sweat session, believe us it does not give you time to feel bad about yourself.
Put on the music and cook
We know cooking isn’t your thing, the dishes are just too elaborate, it requires too many ingredients, well the list goes on! But see it this way even if you are alone, you can always eat good food right? If your family stays too far away from you, you can always call up your mom or grandmom and finally learn that prized family recipe the roast turkey or the apple pie! See it this way if the first batch of your pie, cookies, or anything else for that matter does not taste good, nobody is there to criticize your cooking skills or lack of it! Also, if you finally discover the inner chef in you you can finally say goodbye to Chinese takeaways and stale leftovers. Win-win!
Visit a church or somewhere!
You can always visit a nearby church. Spiritual moments can make a person stronger! Listening to carols and just imbibing the proper festive cheer may not be such a bad thing for a people-starved you. While the pandemic may not allow you to visit a church, you can always visit an online service. While it may not be the same thing, it comes a close second and takes your mind off your immediate emotional status.
Well, there you are — staying alone isn’t such a bad thing; you are alive, healthy, and looking forward to spending quality time the next year or soon. Who knows, the only thing to learn from it is to stay positive! This attitude won’t only help to tide over the current situation but also in the future when you are down in the dumps and need some help!
