It’s not uncommon for big musicians to collaborate with each other on various creative projects. However, having rival musicians work together doesn’t really happen that often.
That’s why the rumor mill really turned when gossip about a possible song collaboration featuring Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez and Katy Perry started spreading.
But is there any truth to these hearsays?
Secret Listening Sessions
Swift is known for leaving clues out for fans and hosting ‘secret listening sessions’ for them ahead of her music launches. And she reportedly did just that for her latest album ‘Lover’ which is set to come out on August 23.
According to lucky fans, who previously had the chance to attend these special sessions, the star would play her entire unreleased album for them as she treated them to cookies and stories.
While these events are highly exclusive and secretive, it isn’t immune to leaks. This is where the collab rumors stemmed from.
As a Swift fan account reports, one fan revealed that a collaboration, which theme is women empowerment, featuring the three pop stars is actually happening. Hearing the ‘news’, some fans were quick to believe the rumor given Swift and Gomez’s longtime friendship and the possibility of Swift and Perry officially making up with each other.
Broken Trust
Of course, there were also a lot of people who remain skeptical about the rumor. For one, they believe that a collaborative project with three artists wouldn’t be so easy to pull off. Swift, Gomez and Perry have distinct voices and musical styles, after all.
There’s also the fact that some fans, who claim to have attended the secret listening session, say the gossip is false and urged people to stop making up ‘leaks’.
Meanwhile, a lot of fans also criticized the perpetrators of the rumors. If proven true, they say that it would have been a violation of Swift’s trust. One fan emphasized that the artist put a lot of trust in her fans as she conducts these sessions and that they should respect her decision.
Bad Blood
Another interesting aspect about the possibility of a three-person collaboration involving the artists is Swift and Perry’s former high-profile feud. While the two have seemingly made amends with each other, with Perry even inviting Swift to her and fiance Orlando Bloom’s wedding, it can be remembered that their fight also led to the ‘Me!’ singer shading her then ex-friend in her hit song ‘Bad Blood‘.
The misunderstandings between the two artists reportedly began when Perry ‘poached’ some of Swift’s tour dancers between the years 2013 and 2014. This event was then allegedly referenced in the latter’s aforementioned hit single.
What followed was a heated subtweet back and forth on Twitter which, later on, involved other personalities such as rapper Nicki Minaj and producer DJ Calvin Harris.
