Keanu Reeves made his silver screen debut back in the 80s but it looks like the 54-year-old actor is having a career renaissance, or as the media dubbed it, a ‘Keanussance’, this year.
Gaining international fame in the 1990s and early 2000s with action movies like ‘Speed’, ‘Point Break’, and The Matrix film franchise, Reeves has made a comeback with the highly-successful John Wick films.
And now, it looks like he might be finally joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) as well.
Joining Marvel
As Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige recently revealed, he’s had talks with the actor about possibly working on the wildly-popular movie franchise. In fact, Feige says that he’s been in contact with Reeves with just about every Marvel film they make. However, nothing seems to be confirmed at the moment as the executive and the actor are still reportedly trying to figure out ‘the right way to do it’.
Feige also compared Reeves’ long-standing interest in joining the film franchise to actor Jake Gyllenhaal’s case. Apparently, the ‘Nightcrawler’ actor spoke with Feige a couple of times before being cast in the role of the supervillain Mysterio in the upcoming ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’.
Meanwhile, Reeves was initially rumored to be up to play Yon-Rogg, a Kree military commander, in the ‘Captain Marvel‘ film. The role eventually went to British actor Jude Law after Reeves reportedly had to drop out of the project due to schedule conflicts with ‘John Wick 3’.
Role Guesses
A few weeks ago, Reeves’ name was attached to ‘The Eternals’ Marvel adaptation which is reportedly slated to be released in 2020. Other celebrities like Angelina Jolie, ‘The Big Sick’ actor Kumail Nanjiani, and ‘Game of Thrones’ actor Richard Madden, have also been rumored to make the cast of the upcoming production.
If Reeves does end up acting in the said film, then people are to see more of him in the coming years. Some of the other projects he has lined up are ‘Bill and Ted Face the Music’, set to premiere in August 2020, and ‘John Wick: Chapter 4’, coming in May 2021.
It’s also worth noting though that the actor has previously expressed his desire to play the character Wolverine, who belongs in the X-Men film franchise. Considering that Hugh Jackman, who last played the mysterious mutant, has wrapped up the character’s story arc in 2017’s ‘Logan’, it might be time to restart the story with a new actor.
With how in-demand and busy Reeves currently is, Marvel should probably act fast to book him for a role.
Just recently, he surprised video game fans when it was revealed that he would be playing Johnny Silverhands in the anticipated release of the game ‘Cyberpunk 2077’.
