Over the years, newly-engaged celebrities have sported a variety of envy-worthy pieces of jewelry. While some prefer to keep it simple and understated, there are also those who’ve worn the most flashy of bling on their ring finger. Scarlett Johansson is definitely one of the latter.
Recently Engaged
The 34-year-old ‘Ghost in the Shell’ actress just got engaged to her comedian boyfriend Colin Jost last May.
However, the couple isn’t one to parade their private lives around the public eye and so, their fans haven’t really seen the new rock that the actress has been sporting on her ring finger.
Johansson and Jost reportedly first met on the set of the late-running NBC comedy show ‘Saturday Night Live‘ two years ago. The actress was on the show taping for her fifth guesting while her would-be boyfriend was working there as a writer. After that episode, the two were reportedly set up for a date and they eventually began a relationship.
At the time, the actress had just filed for divorce from her now ex second husband Romain Dauriac, with whom she’s been married to for three years and has a daughter with.
Debuting the Ring
Appearing with the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) crew at the San Diego Comic-Con last month, the actress surprised fans with the confirmation of a standalone film for her Avengers film series character Black Widow.
While the news was well-received, there were those who can’t help but focus on the new engagement ring she was wearing at the event.
And it’s not hard to see why. The 11-carat diamond ring is almost impossible to miss. believed to be a creation by James de Givenchy for Taffin Jewelry, the gorgeous rock reportedly costs around the $400,000 mark.
Expert’s Opinion
Speaking with Elle magazine, diamond expert Alicia Davis said that Johansson’s brown diamond ring seems to be a cross of the two stone shapes, pear and oval. This mix helped give the ring a somewhat egg-shaped yet elegant appearance.
However, its unique design also made it hard for the expert to accurately pin down the exact retail price of the ring.
Meanwhile, Andrew Fox from Super Jeweler praised the ring’s uniqueness as well. He particularly pointed out its intriguing stone and the possibly polished wooden band it’s been made with. Fox also speculated whether the ring’s stone was a diamond or an imperial topaz.
Still, experts from Rare Carat, confirm that the stone is indeed a diamond and of the type that’s most coveted at that. Being a Type IIA , the ring’s stone has no nitrogen impurities and is one of the rarest types of chemical structure for a diamond making Johansson’s ring all the more special.
